Solution The AF modes available are [Quick mode], [Live mode], and [Live mode] (face detection). If you want to achieve precise focusing, set the lens focus mode switch to , magnify the image, and focus manually Select the AF mode. Under [ Live View/Movie func. set.], select [AF mode].
1) The autofocus works (As in the lens starts working) fine when in Liveview or in Video mode. 2) The lens is 100% set to AF and not MF. 3) When in live view and video mode both the half pressed shutter and the AF-ON button both work. Just NOT in normal mode (looking through the viewfinder and half pressing the shutter)
5D Mark IV focus problems. Oct 3, 2016. I've been fighting focus problems with my new 5D MarkIV. Both of them. The 1st one produced a lot of soft images. Static testing (tripod mounted, high shutter speeds, fixed target) showed a 30% to 50% failure rate.
Auto-focus will not work, not because the EF 1.4X III is not compatible but because the combo raises the minimum aperture to f/8 - you lose 1 stop using the 1.4 teleconverter and with the 100-400mm being at f/5.6 that becomes f/8. Some higher end Canon cameras such as the 1D series, the 5D mark III/IV and the 7D Mark II (not sure about the 6D
I'd been using a 70D with the 17-40 lens, but then replaced that with a Tokina 11-20 f28, for real estate jobs. After I got the 5D, I upgraded to the Canon 16-35 lens. The issue is the focusing on the 5D is not as accurate as the 70D. I work on a tripod, and when the shot is framed, I'll press the shutter half way to get the correct focus points.
